ELEGANT SERVICED SELF-CATERING HOLIDAY HOUSE next to boulders beach penguin colony
Dunearn is a beautiful family home with tall ceilings, open fires, antique furniture and a long balcony/terrace that allows sea and mountain views from every part of the house. Lovingly cared for over the last century by several generations of the same family, the brass gleams and the wood floors are worn smooth from years of polishing.
The holiday home offers serviced self-catering accommodation that includes weekly linen change and twice weekly cleaning. There are four spacious bedrooms, which can accommodate 9 people comfortably, with additional pull-out beds for children. All the bedrooms have sea and mountain views with large windows. There is an elegant dining room with antique furniture, a large farmhouse-style kitchen and a comfortable sitting room with an open fire (should the southeaster turn black) which opens out onto the terrace.
Take breakfast on the terrace with the whole of False Bay spread before you. Watch the penguins bathing in the early morning, catch a seal eyeing them up for breakfast or a whale doing a tail flip, if you're lucky.
The kitchen is equipped with an electric cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, large family fridge and separate freezer. The walk-in larder has all the china and glass you need for home alone or entertaining guests.
The family bathroom on the first floor is roomy with the original Victorian roll top bath looking out through the pine trees. There is a separate shower room on the first floor and a cloakroom with an additional toilet on the ground floor.
The master bedroom (the north bedroom) has a queen-sized double bed and a beautiful limed oak dressing table and wardrobe; the pink bedroom has 2 single beds; the south bedroom also has a queen sized bed. The west bedroom has 3 single beds, with the option of two pull out mattresses should additional sleeping space be needed.
The house has a television with a DSTV decoder. "Free to air" channels are available but guests need to bring their own "smart" card.
Wireless internet is free.
There is ample parking. Access to the house is down a steep path, which would be difficult to manage with a wheelchair, unfortunately.
